The De Montarville terminal was inaugurated on November 20, 2007 by Ms. Francine Gadbois, Mayor of Boucherville, Mr. Joël Gauthier, CEO of the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT), the project’s prime, Ms. Johane F.-Deshaies, president of the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), and Ms. Sylvie Laroche, head of Transport Québec’s Service des inventaires et du Plan for the Direction de l'Est-de-la-Montérégie. Also in attendance were representatives of the Marguerite-D’Youville MNA’s office and of the CIT Sorel-Varennes.

The Mayor, Ms. Francine Gadbois stated: “The new terminal provides an improved service to Montréal for all citizens, and its access is facilitated by the traffic circle, a recently-developed modern, safe and efficient system to encourage the use of public transit and which also reduces greenhouse emissions that burden the environment.”

“With its free incentive parking, a frequent bus service and easy access provided by the traffic circle, the De Montarville terminal, which is the AMT’s 16th terminal, will attract new riders and help reduce congestion on Boucherville’s roads”, declared Mr. Joël Gauthier.

“This new terminal is the result of an innovative approach mainly by the choice of its location which maximizes land use, while ensuring optimal public transit services”, said Ms. Johane F.-Deshaies.

“Transport Québec is proud to have contributed to improving public transit services for South Shore riders by investing over $2.2 million in this project and by making available right-of-way of Route 132 to the AMT. The De Montarville terminal is a fine example of projects that the government supports as part of its new public transit policy whose aim is an 8% increase in public transit ridership by 2012”, explained Ms. Sylvie Laroche

This major public transit project in the region had the following objectives:

    • To reorganize the RTL’s bus routes in the region by creating a new hub
    • To decrease parking by the RTL’s users on Marie-Victorin Boulevard near Route 132 (exit 17) by providing a comfortable and safe parking facility
    • To provide direct access to high-frequency express routes to all Boucherville residents
    • To introduce an efficient link between the CIT Sorel-Varennes and RTL systems for trips from Sorel and Varennes to Boucherville or to the eastern part of Montréal.
