INCREASE IN RTL RIDERSHIP SUSTAINED IN 2018

Longueuil, October 18, 2018 – For the second consecutive year, the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) recorded an increase in ridership across both its regular network and the paratransit network.

Since the start of 2018, the RTL’s regular network has seen a sustained increase in ridership of nearly 3% compared to 2017. On the paratransit side, ridership increased an astonishing 14% compared to 2017.

“We’re proud to say that public transit is experiencing unprecedented popularity at a time when the company is facing significant environmental challenges. This increase also has concrete effects on the economic vitality of our agglomeration,” stated Pierre Brodeur, Chairman of the RTL.

“The increase is proof that citizens are aware of public transit as a sustainable mobility option, and that they realize they can do their part to fight climate change. Our growing fleet of hybrid vehicles and the arrival of electric buses in the spring will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions even more. However, all of these changes are not without their repercussions on our teams and infrastructures. Our teams work hard every day to meet this challenge by always providing the best possible service to our users. We are currently working on several projects to improve the user experience, for both our regular network and our paratransit network. I applaud the remarkable work by all of the RTL’s employees and thank our users for their confidence in us,” concluded Michel Veilleux, Executive Director of the RTL.
