VÉLOBUS JACQUES-CARTIER IS BACK

Longueuil, December 5, 2019 - The Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), in partnership with the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI), is pleased to announce the return of the VéloBus Jacques Cartier. Following the pilot project carried out in 2017, this service will allow cyclists to cross the Jacques Cartier Bridge from Monday to Friday, during rush hours, while the multipurpose path is closed for the winter.

The shuttle will travel round-trip between Longueuil and Montréal, every 20 minutes during rush hour. For the safety of everyone on board, cyclists will have to secure their bikes with bungee-type elastic cords; they will also have to pay the going fare on the RTL network. The VéloBus will depart Longueuil from the corner of boulevard Lafayette and rue de la Providence, next to the bike path to the Jacques Cartier Bridge; on the Montréal side, it will leave from the Papineau metro station, at the corner of boulevard de Maisonneuve Est and rue Cartier.

“The VéloBus is a safe alternative to winter bike travel between Longueuil and Montréal. This project is also a way for the RTL to encourage alternative methods of transportation that complement public transit,” stated Pierre Brodeur, Chairman of the RTL Board of Directors.

“We applaud the return of the VéloBus, a symbol of the RTL and JCCBI’s willingness to innovate and work together to support active mobility,” added Sandra Martel, CEO of JCCBI. “In parallel with this initiative, we did a simulation of winter operations on the Jacques Cartier Bridge multipurpose path in order to determine the possible level of service on this path during the winter months.”
