ASSISTANCE FOR PUBLIC TRANSIT: MUCH APPRECIATED SUPPORT
Longueuil, September 25, 2020 – The Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) welcomes the financial assistance announced today for public transit agencies, given the blow dealt to the sector in recent months by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We were very hopeful that this assistance would come through, given the huge drop in ridership and the costs generated by the pandemic. Provincial funding alone wasn’t enough to cover the major losses incurred by the public transit sector,” said Jonathan Tabarah, Chairman of the RTL Board of Directors. “This assistance, combined with the provincial government support and the optimization plan we’ve put in place, will help us to meet the reduction targets set by the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM), thus ensuring financial stability for the next few years. We would like to thank the federal and provincial governments for their responsiveness and their initiatives.”
