COVID-19: FIRST CASE IN THE AGGLOMÉRATION DE LONGUEUIL

Longueuil, March 10, 2020 – The Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) has learned from the Direction de la santé publique de la Montérégie that the first case of COVID-19 has been reported in the Agglomération de Longueuil. The infected person rode certain sections of RTL line 88 and was at the Longueuil terminal on February 24 and March 6 (https://www.quebec.ca/en/health/health-issues/a-z/2019-coronavirus/).

As a reminder, the Direction de la santé publique urges anyone who may have used the public transit network at these specific times to monitor their symptoms (fever, cough, or breathing difficulties). If you experience these symptoms, call 811.

Santé publique de la Montérégie has determined that there is no need to step up bus cleaning and disinfection regimens, given the survival time of the virus on hard surfaces. The risk of contamination remains very low from using public transit, according to Santé publique. However, as a preventive measure, we will review our cleaning procedures with a view to increasing their frequency, with a particular emphasis on high-touch surfaces.

The RTL is mindful of the situation and has been in constant contact since January with the Centre de santé et de services sociaux de la Montérégie-Centre in order to adjust its procedures if needed. We remind our users to adopt the same hygiene practices that apply during flu season and to any other circulating virus.
