RTL TO BEGIN DISTRIBUTING FACE COVERINGS TO USERS

Longueuil, May 22, 2020 – The Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) has announced that it will begin distributing face coverings to its users. This will be done in three phases and at different locations within the Agglomération in order to reach as many users as possible.

Thanks to support from the government of Québec, more than 20,000 reusable face coverings will be handed out by mid-June. The operation will begin on Tuesday, May 26.

Special emphasis will be placed on users of paratransit and shared taxi services. Through agreements with the taxi and minibus companies that work for the RTL, drivers will be able to hand out face coverings directly to users.

This operation has been approved by the public health authorities and will take place in accordance with all recommended measures, such as the wearing of a mask, face shield and gloves.

“We wish to thank our drivers and maintenance staff who have volunteered for this operation, and it will be my pleasure to stand shoulder to shoulder with them in handing out these masks to our users. The safety of our users and employees is our top priority, and we hope that you’ll feel secure enough to get back on our buses,” said Jonathan Tabarah, Chairman of the RTL Board of Directors.

Upcoming mask distribution dates will be announced on our website and social media accounts. Users can also stay informed about the preventive measures we’ve taken in response to the virus on our dedicated COVID-19 web page.

Note that the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) strongly recommends wearing a face covering when taking public transit. A face covering is not intended to replace other hygiene and public health measures, such as frequent hand washing, respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette, and physical distancing.
