RTL WELCOMES ANNOUNCEMENT OF WIDENING OF A30

Longueuil, September 24, 2020 – The Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) is thrilled about the Québec government’s announcement that it will widen Autoroute 30 to accommodate buses, making east-west travel quicker and easier for users in the Agglomération.

“This is excellent news for our users. The traffic on this highway slows down travel across the entire South Shore. With the impending arrival of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM), this new lane will be an additional factor in the success of this electric rail system. We hope to see this project fast-tracked to that it happens as soon as possible,” said Jonathan Tabarah, Chairman of the RTL Board of Directors.

Note that the RTL is currently reviewing its network in line with the arrival of the REM. Phase 1 of the consultations took place in the Agglomération’s cities in 2018 and 2019, and Phase 2 will be announced in the coming months. Improving east-west and internal links on the South Shore is central to the Agglomération de Longueuil’s Vision 2025, the flagship project of which is the foundational electric transportation system currently under study by the RTL.
