THE RTL’S GETTING ON BOARD PROGRAM: NOW FOR USERS AGED 55 AND OVER!
Longueuil, October 25, 2021 – The Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) wishes to encourage Longueuil residents aged 55 and over to use its buses and give their feedback on the advantages of public transit, namely accessibility, reliability and simplicity.
Ever attentive to the changing needs of its users, the RTL is teaming up with community partners to promote the Getting on board program to people aged 55 and over. The first step is to reach out to the target groups, whether they live in seniors’ residences, belong to a club, or volunteer for an association. This program, designed to increase awareness about public transit, is being offered alongside the one for elementary school students, in place since 1996.
With the new Getting on board - 55+ component, the RTL is hoping to see a gradual increase in ridership among the 55+ crowd, thus helping them to preserve their mobility and independence.
The RTL plans to use different communication methods to inform residents in this age bracket about bus safety, as a way of countering any fears or concerns they may have. For the RTL, it is vital that these individuals feel safe riding public transit when and wherever they like, allowing them to remain active and continue contributing to community life.
As such, the RTL will head out into the Agglomération to speak directly to groups of people aged 55 and over.
